How engineering actually works, one machine at a time

engineering.fm makes short animated explainers that take a single piece of engineering apart: how a git push reaches production, how a chip is made, how a reusable rocket engine is tested, how one bad update hit 8.5 million Windows machines.

Each episode runs 5 to 8 minutes. The animation is drawn in code, with no stock footage, and every factual claim is checked against a primary source before it’s recorded. The sources are listed on every episode page.

What’s covered

  • How it’s built: software systems like deploys, databases, networks, payments and LLMs

  • How it’s made: hardware like chips, rockets, robots and batteries

  • Agentic engineering: coding agents, MCP and context windows

  • Why it broke: public outages and engineering failures

Why subscribe?

Every new episode lands in your inbox with a written version you can skim in two minutes, plus the diagrams and the sources. Watch them all at engineering.fm.
